In a time, considered by many to be characterized by fatal decisions and events, that may hit the whole globe across all known borders, it is dawning on more and more people, that life on the planet, as we know it, will undergo dramatic changes in the decades to come. The changes, we have experienced in the past decades will be minor compared to those of the future. The generations growing up today will be around in the year 2050, they need to be prepared to act in the present and the future.
The world will be faced with the challenge of transforming our societies away from dependency on fossil fuels, dealing with the food crises following in the wake, coping with increased number of natural disasters and the effects of global warming, the widening gap between rich and poor, resolving the political, economical, human and social crises that potentially could become very ugly.

Qualquer tipo de educação deve preparar os alunos para o futuro. Se não é o caso, os alunos foram enganados e perderam tempo e dinheiro.
Em uma época caracterizada por muitos como uma era de grandes eventos e decisões fatais, que podem afetar todo o planeta e atravessar todos os limites conhecidos, mais e mais pessoas estão vendo que a vida no planeta, como a conhecemos, está sujeita a mudanças dramáticas nas próximas décadas. As mudanças que temos vivido até agora serão menores quando comparadas com as do futuro. As gerações que estão crescendo hoje no mundo são aquelas que vivenciarão 2050, razão pela qual eles têm que estar preparados para agir no presente e no futuro.
O mundo enfrentará um grande desafio. As nossas sociedades não podem continuar dependentes dos combustíveis fósseis e devem resolver a iminente crise de alimentos. Haverá também que confrontar um maior número de desastres naturais, o aquecimento global, a crescente brecha entre ricos e pobres, os problemas políticos, as crises econômicas, sociais e humanas que podem chegar a um ponto crítico.
